Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park
New Mexico USA in August

Green Heron |
The great news is now that the Rio Grande has shared its
water with the Mesilla Valley Bosque and the ditches and ponds have been full
for a couple of months. We can enjoy the beauty of common water birds. There are at present several Green Heron juvenile
and an adult to be observed. One bold individual has realised the easy
pickings of mice and small reptiles in the vicinity of the State Park entrance.
The whole park is a great tribute to the effects of the park team and state park administration. There are new pathways and the old are well maintained.
From a Birders viewpoint the autumn migrations is already underway and in addition to Green Heron, there Black-crowned Night Heron and Great Blue. At large pond there is a Virginia Rail (a telescope is really needed) watch from behind the hide screens (blinds) west
