The British Pied Wagtail Motacilla alba yarrellii
Photographed today on the south coast of England 24/1/2014 - is a subspecies of the European White Wagtail not to be confused with the Asian bird Black-backed Wagtail Motacilla alba lugens sometimes seen on the west coast of the United States which in turn is has been considered a different species by many taxonomists. Some authorities and national species lists still differ and conclude the bird as separate specie Black-backed Wagtail Motacilla lugens
The individual captured in a male it was in the company of several females. The females resemble white wagtails closely watch this space for an imagine of the female Pied Wagtail

Then on the last day of February coming into breeding plumage is a very active male still in its winter feeding area but always accompanied by a female
Then on the 17th of March with new plumage complete he leaves the bowling green, his wintering area by the sea in Brighton for Pastures new...
