Waders and water

Shorebirds  in the desert

When making their long distant journey from their wintering grounds to their breeding areas, thousands of miles flying north from Mexico and the Americas across the desert, where do migratory waders stop to refuel?  Waders make this long flight to the vital northern breeding grounds in the far north; Alaska or in some cases even as far as Siberia. Absolutely crucial to their survival are ponds, lakes and rivers. Places where they can feed and effectively refuel.
